TEMPORARY GRADUATE (485) VISA
This is a temporary visa that allows international students to live, study and work in Australia after completing their studies.
Graduate Work Stream
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications relevant to specific occupations Australia needs. The visa is usually valid up to 18 months, with the exception of Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders who may be granted a 5-year visa.
General Requirements:
- Below 50 years of age
- Student visa holder within the last 6 months
- Meet Australian Study requirement
- Qualification relevant to an occupation in the MLTSSL
- Skills Assessment
- Adequate Health Insurance
- Meet Health requirement
- Meet Character requirement
- English language ability (IELTS average of 6; at least 5 per band)
Post-Study Work Stream
This visa is for international students who recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. The visa is usually valid from 2 to 4 years depending on the student’s qualification. Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may be granted a 5-year visa.
General Requirements:
- Below 50 years of age
- Student visa holder within the last 6 months
- Meet Australian Study requirement
- Has a recent degree in a Cricos-registered course
- Adequate Health Insurance
- Meet Health requirement
- Meet Character requirement
- English language ability (IELTS average of 6; at least 5 per band)
- Applied for and granted their first student visa on or after 5 November 2011
Second Post Study Work Stream
This visa is for 485 Post-Study Work visa holders who graduated with a degree from an Australian Institution located in Regional Australia. The visa is valid for 1 to 2 years depending on the regional location of the educational institution and the regional residence of the visa holder.
